The AP Top 25 Poll comes out every Sunday in the early afternoon. However, in the leadup to the official poll's release, some voters will release their ballots to the public. Brett McMurphy does this every week on Sunday morning. He will typically release his list with an accompanying article.
After several upset results on Saturday, fans are interested to see what the new AP Top 25 Poll will look like. As a result, there was interest among fans to see Brett McMurphy put out for his ballot.
Although no one is ever going to completely agree with a ranking of 25 teams, fans were not overly critical of McMurphy. Many even said that his list was not bad.
"This is actually not a terrible ballot," one fan wrote.
"Best rankings I've seen today," one fan commented.
"No issue with this. Let's get the playoff going already," one fan added.
However, as you would expect from a ranking, there were still many who were critical of McMurphy's ballot. Many had issues with SEC rankings specifically.
"The 'can't rank them higher b/c they won head to head' needs to stop. SCarolina should be ahead of Ole Miss. Ole Miss has 2 losses to unranked teams, 1 of whom is 4-7 @ ole miss. SCarolina lost to 3 ranked teams has won 5 in row, 3 against ranked opponents. SC beat LSU!" one fan wrote.
"Brett, I feel like polls like this hurt the APs credibility because of SEC bias. You can argue quality of losses, but losing by three scores to a team is pretty inexcusable to try and put them ahead of other one loss teams," one fan commented.
"I know the strength of schedule isn't great, but Notre Dame is taking care of business every week in impressive fashion. It might be time to consider them better than Texas and Penn State," one fan added.
The final regular season AP Top 25 Poll will influence which teams make the playoffs
The AP Top 25 Poll will be released in the early afternoon of Sunday. Then a week later, after the final games of the regular season, the final regular season AP Top 25 Poll will be released.
This poll will influence which teams make the playoffs. The five highest-ranked conference champions make the playoffs, but the final seven spots go to the next seven highest-ranked conference champions. So, the results of the poll a week from now will have huge implications for teams like Alabama.
