Colorado fell 28-10 at Nebraska on Saturday, and Shedeur Sanders blamed his offensive line for the loss. In his postgame news conference, the quarterback outlined the weakness of his offensive line which has been evident since 2023.
“How many times did (Nebraska quarterback Dylan) Raiola get touched?” Sanders asked when questioned on the team’s poor run game. “How many times did Raiola get touched?
“Of course, whenever you’re able to run the ball consistently, then it opens up the pass. But you gotta understand what your team’s good at. Why would we run the ball if we get out there when it’s a must-have situation, and we don’t get it?”
Colorado ran for 16 yards on 22 carries, while Nebraska ran for 149 yards on 35 carries. Included in CU's rushing totals are six sacks that took away 41 yards. Meanwhile, Raiola was not sacked in the game.
Shedeur Sanders’ reaction hasn’t impressed many college football fans. Many blame the quarterback for not taking responsibility for the loss as a leader and instead blasting his teammates.
Here’s a look at some of the reactions online.
Deion Sanders holds the same view as Shedeur Sanders
Colorado coach Deion Sanders holds the same view as his son and quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, on the team’s offensive struggles against Nebraska.
Coach Prime acknowledged he had no clear explanation for why his offense struggled so significantly (260 total yards and scoreless for the first threee quarters). However, he pointed to poor pass protection as a major issue.
“It seemed like we just never got it going until it was too late," Sanders said. "Seemed like we just never got it going. Protection was a problem.
“I'm trying to be polite and say it because I can say the same thing you're thinking, but if I say it, you'll say I'm throwing my guys under the bus. I'm not doing that whatsoever. Protection was a problem. We have to figure out a way to prevent that and do a better job with that."
The offensive line has been Colorado’s weakness since last season. The program suffered the second-most sacks in the FBS in 2023, and despite the overhaul of talent in the room ahead of 2024, the problem appears to remain.
Shedeur Sanders faced relentless pressure against Nebraska, enduring five sacks and taking 10 quarterback hits. The constant harassment severely impacted his ability to find a rhythm and execute the offense effectively.
