Alabama has kicked off its 2027 recruiting efforts early and already secured two commitments. Kalen DeBoer and his staff are actively targeting more sophomores across the country and extended an offer to tight end Sam Faniel on Saturday after he participated in their weekend camp.
In an interview with Touchdown Alabama, the Benedictine College Preparatory (Richmond, Virginia) standout shared his excitement of gwtting the Crimson Tide offer, saying:
“This is big for me. My dad is from Alabama and has been a Tide fan since I can remember. This one definitely means a lot to me because I also grew up watching this team being the powerhouse of all of college football.”

The 6-foot-6 and 215 pound prospect is rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports. He described himself as a strong blocker with a knack for gaining yards after the catch, which was a major part of his production during the 2024 season.
Faniel has also received offers from Auburn, Marshall, Florida State, South Florida and Michigan State. He has just completed his sophomore year and hasn’t singled out a favorite yet.
"Every school is a choice for me," Faniel told SI. "I am thankful for every school that has offered me and is willing to give me an opportunity to be a part of their team."
The Crimson Tide's 2027 class features in-state edge rusher JaBarrius Garror and Georgia athlete Alexander Ward.
Alabama makes top 5 of four-star DL Emanuel Ruffin
Four-star defensive lineman Emanuel Ruffin named five finalists, and Alabama makes the list alongside Ohio State, LSU, Texas and Georgia. He is set to announce his commitment on July 4.
Alabama, the in-state school, offered the 6-foot-3, 295-pound prospect in January during his first visit to Tuscaloosa.
"It means everything to me," Ruffin told BamaOnLine after receiving the offer. "Growing up in an Alabama household, that just means a lot to me and my family. I know that they’re proud, and I’m also proud.”
Defensive line coach Freddie Roach is Ruffin's primary recruiter in Alabama. On3 has given the program the best odds to secure his commitment at 42.2%.
