SEC fines Texas for fan behavior against Georgia

The SEC had a swift reaction to the chaotic behavior of Texas fans against Georgia on Saturday night.

Less than 24 hours after the conclusion of the game, the conference fined the Longhorns a sum of $250,000.

In addition to that, the program has been required to identify the fans involved in the incident and ban them from the team's game for the rest of the year.

A host of students have received the notification of their stadium ban from the school.

"The throwing of debris and resulting interruption of play that took place Saturday night cannot be part of any SEC event," SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement.

"The SEC is assigned responsibility by its membership to enforce its sportsmanship and game management policies and these actions are consistent with that oversight responsibility, including the financial penalty and mandated review,” he added.

Sarkisian alerts Texas fanbase ahead of the Vanderbilt clash

On Monday, Steve Sarkisian addressed the Texas fan base, urging them to exercise better discretion after the school got fined and faced potential further sanctions by the SEC.

Sarkisian acknowledged the fans' enthusiasm but emphasized the need for more responsible behavior in the future to avoid additional penalties.

The Longhorns aren’t marking the first year in the SEC on a good note following the chaotic incident.

"I know that we've got a passionate fan base, and I think that showed Saturday night," Sarkisian said Monday. "I think we all were a little upset in that moment. I just think that we've all got to use a little better discretion in moments like that," he added.

Sarkisian walked up to the student section of the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium during the incident to stop fans from throwing objects onto the field. The controversial call was eventually overturned in favor of Texas.
