Travis Hunter 40 time: How fast is Colorado Buffs' WR?

Stanford Colorado Football
Travis Hunter is back on the field for Colorado.

A key ability of Travis Hunter is his ability to accelerate, with his 40-yard dash being 4.40 unofficially. Other reports have him at 4.48, which would be right on the queue for the average time for wide receiver or cornerback in the NFL, both positions which Hunter plays.

Hunter had a dream return to the turf, as he scored his first offensive touchdown as a Colorado Buff. The play came with 3:36 minutes left in the first quarter, with the wide receiver catching a pass from quarterback Shedeur Sanders to turn it into a 24-yard touchdown reception.

Unexpectedly, there was some controversy in the play, as the star player kneeled on both knees to celebrate his achievement by making a quick prayer.

The officials flagged with a penalty, which seemed rather unnecessary. Apparently, the penalty came due to the fact that the NCAA prohibits players from kneeling with both knees during celebrations.

It was Travis Hunter's first game in three weeks, as the player had been out with a lacerated liver since mid-game against Colorado State in Week 3. In that game, he had suffered a horrendous tackle in the first half by Ram defensive back Henry Blackburn. However, there were no hard feelings between the players, as Hunter later invited his rival to hang out.

Hunter had a couple of outstanding games at the beginning of the season against TCU and Nebraska and was named a very early candidate for the Heisman by some. That was especially impressive, as were his 119 receiving yards and interception in the season-opening upset win over TCU.

How did Colorado Buffs fare without Travis Hunter?

The Buffs clearly missed Travis Hunter, who is a key piece of both their units. In Week 4, the star wide receiver/cornerback might have been happy to have skipped the humiliation against Oregon in a 42-6 hiding.

In Week 5, they had what could be considered a moral win over USC, as they almost achieved a comeback in the fourth quarter in a 48-41 loss. In Week 6, they struggled to beat an inferior team like the Arizona Sun Devils, 27-24.

From these results, it's clear that Travis Hunter is essential to the hopes of the Buffs.
