Shilo Sanders suffered a forearm injury in the Week 2 game against Nebraska on Saturday. Colorado suffered a disappointing defeat on the road to the Cornhuskers, creating a setback for the season. The safety left the game in the first half and never made a return in Lincoln.
Colorado coach Deion Sanders subsequently made it known on Monday that the injury Shilo suffered on Saturday required surgery, which was successful. He made the announcement on his Instagram page, posting a post-surgery picture of his son at the hospital.
A post-surgery video of Shilo Sanders also surfaced online on Tuesday. The safety was seen on the hospital bed following the process with Deion Sanders, who's worth $45 million according to Celebrity Net Worth, showing some love by raining kisses on him. Have a look at the scene below:
Deion Sanders gives an update on Shilo Sanders
After going through surgery, there were fears that Shilo Sanders might stay out of action for the rest of the season. However, that won't be the case for the senior, according to Colorado coach Deion Sanders.
During his press conference session on Tuesday, Coach Prime gave an update on the status of Shilo, which many were anticipating. The player will be out of action for just two to three weeks despite the surgery on his forearm.
“Knowing Shilo, Shilo has God in his corner I’m telling you, I’ve never seen anything like it, the healing ability. I think Shilo was out for four, maybe four-and-a-half months with a knee surgery,” Sander said.
“That’s how quickly he came back. Then coming back from a shoulder surgery as well. Shilo has the hand of God on him. So I would say two to three weeks.”
Deion Sanders praises Shilo Sanders’ understudy
Carter Stoutmire filled in for Shilo Sanders following his injury against Nebraska in the Week 2 encounter. The performance of the sophomore safety impressed Coach Prime and garnered his praises during his press conference session on Tuesday.
"Carter's big, physical, could play corner, could play safety, could run," Sanders said. "He had a couple phenomenal open-field tackles. He's the future, a kid that we went and got out of high school. He's been doing a wonderful job. He's the son of a professional player and his daddy raised him profoundly.”
Stoutmire recorded five tackles against Nebraska while filling in for Shilo. He played as a cornerback in his true freshman season but transitioned to safety during the offseason. With his versatility on defense, he will have a big role to play against Colorado State in Week 3.
