Midweek college football action pitted the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers against the Appalachian State Mountaineers in Week 11 of the 2024 season.Last year's rivalry game was characterized by crowd trouble when CCU won at the home of App State. It prompted the Mountaineers fans to throw trash at the celebrating players.This time, Coastal Carolina coach Tim Beck started the festivities early on Thursday, chugging down a beer on the set of ESPN's SportsCenter, which aired from Brooks Stadium, Conway.Much to the delight of college football fans, Beck, who chugged the beer alongside Dan Mullen and Matt Barrie, who hosted the show, even crushed the can against his head when he was done.The video of Beck's actions went viral on various social media platforms. The Chanticleers went on to run over the Mountaineers and win the game 38-24 to move to 5-4 for the season. It led to another round of celebrations from the coach, players and fans.The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers fans chanted for Tim Beck to chug the beer which he shared with his former player, Matt Barrie, whom he coached in high school. During his postgame news conference, Beck had a cheeky comment regarding his actions“I’m sure my wife was really proud,” Beck said. “Coach Mullen couldn’t believe I did it.”The pre-game festivities were a college football festival. The Coastal Carolina mascot Chauncey the Chanticleer fought a light saber duel with Star Wars villain Darth Vader, which the former won to the delight of CCU fans.College football fans storm pitch after beating rivalsThe Coastal Carolina Chanticleers had been on a three-game losing streak before they beat the Appalachian State Mountaineers in their annual rivalry game. Predictably, CCU fans stormed the pitch after the game ended.During his post-game news conference, Coastal Carolina running back Braydon Bennett spoke about the incident of CCU fans storming the pitch after the game ended.“I thought someone would break their leg again like people did two years ago,” Bennett said. “But then they came over, and I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, we lit. We won'. Everybody had a bad taste in their mouths, (but everyone) was like, ‘There’s no way we lose to these boys.' Everybody turned up their intensity. Everybody worked hard all week.”Although the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will likely not be in contention for the Sun Belt Conference championship game, CCU fans had a memorable Thursday night.
