Deion Sanders's Colorado Buffaloes held their spring game on Saturday. This was the fans' first opportunity to see how quarterback Shedeur Sanders and star player Travis Hunter will fare this season in what will be an important year for the Buffaloes as they play their first year in the Big 12.

Before the game, Shedeur Sanders performed his now-famous "Watch Flex" for the Buffaloes fans. The moment can be seen in a recent video posted by Deion Sanders Jr.'s YouTube channel (timestamp 12:05)

How did the "Watch Flex" start?

The "Watch Flex" is something that Shedeur Sanders has been doing for most of his time with the Colorado Buffaloes.

Shedeur Sanders first performed the "Watch Flex" during the Buffaloes' Week 2 victory against the Nebraska Cornhuskers after the Cornhuskers stood on the Buffaloes' logo at their home stadium.

However, the flex took on a life of its own the following week after the Buffaloes defeated rival Colorado State in overtime. Before the game, Colorado State coach Jay Norvell critiqued Shedeur Sanders, leading Sanders to respond with the "Watch Flex" and the following quote after the Buffaloes' victory:

"I was just waiting the whole time to put a watch on ‘em."

The Sanders family has been associated with pricey watches for a while. Deion Sanders wore an expensive watch during his NFL playing days, and this almost tradition has been passed down to his son, Shedeur.

The flex is used to not only show off the expensive watches that he has earned in his short career but also to prove those who doubt his abilities wrong. It is a way to tell the critics to look at where he is, playing college football at a high level and becoming one of not only the most talked about players in college football, but one of the most exciting players to watch.

How did Shedeur Sanders perform in the Colorado Buffaloes' spring game?

Shedeur Sanders played in three offense drives, completing 10 of 14 passes and scoring one touchdown, a 19-yard pass to LaJohntay Wester, a new addition to the team after transferring from Florida Athletic, in the Colorado Buffaloes' spring game on Saturday.

After the game, Deion Sanders commented on his son's performance:

"The kid can flat-out play."

However, the real test for Shedeur Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes will come in the fall, when they play their first season back in the Big 12, hoping to improve on an underwhelming four-win season last year.

For Shedeur, the season will have added significance, as it will be his last before the NFL draft, where he is seen as one of the top quarterback prospects available.

Do you think Shedeur Sanders can be the No. 1 pick of the 2025 NFL draft?
