Could the Colorado Buffaloes make the College Football Playoff this season?

The Colorado Buffaloes have been one of the more intriguing programs in college football and have a realistic shot at making the 12-team College Football Playoff this season. The Buffs, 21st in the country, need help to get into the Big 12 Championship Game.

If they win the Big 12 Championship, they would be in a good position to make the College Football Playoff, but it's not mandatory as the five highest-ranking conference champions automatically make the CFP. It would be a massive advantage if they win, but they could be in one of the seven non-champion spots as well.

It would be a bit more difficult, but being a two-loss team competing with other teams for one of those seven spots would mean their fate could be decided by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee. They can still make the CFP, but it will be interesting as it all depends on how Colorado plays the final four regular season weeks.
