Lane Kiffin and his No. 9 Ole Miss team suffered an upset against Florida on Saturday. The Rebels were defeated 24-17 by the Gators in Gainesville, doing a lot of damage to their season. They have now fallen out of contention for a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff.

Following the game, Lane Kiffin expressed his feelings about his team's performance in the Week 13 encounter. Speaking in his post-game press conference, the coach rues his team's missed opportunity in the game.

“Very disappointing outcome today,” Kiffin said. [It’s] a game with a lot of missed opportunities. We go 0-for-3 in the red zone, get no points out of the missed field goal, get stopped twice on fourth downs and lose the turnover margin.
“Tough place to play against a team that has played really good when that quarterback plays. Credit to him. He’s a really good player that made a lot of plays in the first half. It's a really disappointing outcome. And obviously, a lot was at stake and we didn’t come through.“

The Week 13 loss did not only rule the Rebels out of playoff contention, it also dismantled their chances of playing in the Southeastern Conference championship game after the win against Georgia had increased it significantly.

Lane Kiffin addresses his team's close losses this season

All of Ole Miss’ victories this season have been blowouts, showcasing the prowess of its explosive offense. On the other hand, the three losses have been close ones, going down by not more than a score.

Lane Kiffin was questioned about that in his postgame press conference.

“It’s football, and that happens," Kiffin said. "The year before, most of the close ones, it was the opposite, right? All the close ones went our way. So, sometimes the ball bounces that way. Sometimes when you’ve got opportunities to make plays…that’s a pretty easy storyline.
"They’re (Florida) 2-for-2 in the red zone and we are 0-for-3. We outgained them by 100 yards, but they won the turnover margin. So again, it shows how irrelevant your yards are versus scoring in the red zone and turnovers.

After appearing in a New Year's Six bowl game last season, the Rebels were primed for a spot in the expanded playoffs this season. However, it appears they've fallen short of the expectations after the loss.
