Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is not only focused on helping the program succeed. The two-time Super Bowl champ also gives importance to helping his players achieve their dreams and ambitions outside the game of football as well.
During Colorado's Spring game, Colorado walk-on RB Charlie Offerdahl was rewarded for his loyalty to the program by Deion Sanders. He joined the team back in 2021 and saw the team struggle during their 1-11 2022 campaign. However, he kept his faith and continued performing on the field, leading to "Coach Prime" giving him a scholarship.
Speaking on the "Travis Hunter Show" on Sunday, Charlie Offerdahl opened up about the respect and love he has for "Coach Prime". He talked about how Sanders is a role model and always treats his players like family. Offerdahl also said that his guidance has been very valuable in his growth as a player and person.
"Ever since I've been here, he's treated me in a way that no other coach has besides maybe my high school coach," Offerdahl said. "He just cares for us like we're a part of his family. I know Trav, you feel the same way. The fact that he has always believed in me, you know, as a walk-on has been so special to me.
"He brought so many blessings to my life. Like obviously, he's so busy. He's gonna have his time during the day to talk to the team and what not. But just having him there, being that role model for us, whatever that's on the field or in the classroom, in the outside world. It's huge for us," he added.
So far this season, Offerdahl has seen limited time on the field. He has tallied a total of 103 yards and one touchdown rushing for 22 carries.
Deion Sanders heaps praise on Charlie Offerdahl after Week 12 victory over Utah
The former walk-on from Dakota Ridge High School scored the first touchdown of his career during their 49-24 victory over the Utah Utes. Offerdahl had four rushing yards for one carry to help his team to victory.
After the game, Sanders congratulated the RB for his first career touchdown and said that for him, that was the best moment of their Week 12 showdown.
"My highlight of the game was Charlie Offerdahl getting into the endzone," Sanders said. "He's a 4.0 student. He's above board on everything, never on anybody's list, and helps everyone who endeavors to come to him for advice, for support, for knowledge outside as well as in the running back room. So thank God for Charlie."
Deion Sanders has had a wonderful season in his second campaign with the Buffs. However, their Week 13 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks put a dent in their hopes of competing for the Big 12 title.
Nevertheless, an 8-3 campaign is something "Coach Prime" can be proud of after a massive overhaul of the roster and coaching staff in the offseason.
