Who will be Cal’s starting quarterback vs. Utah?

The California Golden Bears have had quite a situation at quarterback this season. Justin Wilcox named Sam Jackson V the starting QB ahead of the season. However, he’s had competition from both Ben Finley and Fernando Mendoza. Freshman Mendoza was handed the first start of his collegiate career last weekend and will be expected to start tomorrow.

Against Oregon State, Mendoza completed 21 of 32 pass attempts for 207 yards and two touchdowns. If he can replicate the performance against Utah and inspire the team to a win, he might secure the starting spot permanently.

Who will be Utah’s starting quarterback vs. Cal?

Cam Rising’s return in time for tomorrow’s game remains doubtful despite positive reports about his recovery. Bryson Barnes also picked up an injury in Utah’s loss to the Oregon State Beavers. Nate Johnson will take the reins of Utah’s offense in the absence of Rising and Barnes on Saturday.

The most recent meeting between these two teams was in 2019, where the Utes beat Cal 35-0. The series is currently tied at 6-6.
