Dan Lanning and the Oregon staff tried their best to secure the commitment of five-star quarterback Jared Curtis when he decommitted from Georgia, but he ended up recommitting to the Bulldogs. However, the Ducks still have another major five-star QB target in the 2026 class in Ryder Lyons, who is set to make his way to Eugene this weekend, according to On3's Hayes Fawcett.

USC and BYU have been Oregon’s main competitors for Lyons, and fans have been voicing their thoughts ahead of his anticipated trip.

"Ryder will be a Trojan," a fan wrote.
"It's gonna be USC or BYU I'm calling it," a netizen commented.

Lyons is also planning to embark on an 18-month LDS mission starting in January, which would place him in the 2027 recruiting class. His trip to Oregon this weekend will be his first official visit of the summer, and Ducks fans have already started making their case.

"Come be a MIGHTY OREGON DUCK!!" a fan wrote.

Recruiting experts like Max Torres, Justin Hopkins, Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos have all predicted that Lyons will end up committing to Oregon.

Besides Lyons, Lanning's staff will also be hosting two other highly regarded recruits this weekend in wide receiver Messiah Hampton and cornerback Davon Benjamin. Both of them have also been predicted to land with the Ducks, according to On3 analysts.

What will Oregon get in Ryder Lyons?

Ryder Lyons is the No. 3 prospect in the country and the No. 2 quarterback in the 2026 class, according to Rivals.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound passer has been training with a sports psychologist since eighth grade. Since his sophomore year, he has established himself as one of the nation’s elite quarterbacks, capable of beating defenses with both his arm and his mobility.

Lyons is focused and hardworking. He wants to throw 60 touchdowns, keep a 4.0 GPA and grow spiritually. Oregon should get a strong leader on and off the field.

In a 2023 interview with Matt Long of Gold Country Media, Lyons spoke about his mindset:

"I think I’m a fighter to my core. I’m never going to give up and am going to get it done at all cost.
"The competitiveness in me has always been there as long as I can remember. I know I can always do better and I’m willing to keep working hard and keep fighting so I can get better. I want to be the best at everything I do. That keeps me working harder. You have to love the grind, then get up and do it again."

Oregon has seven committed players in the 2026 cycle, ranking No. 10 in the nation.
