Despite his superb performance at the Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, Shedeur Sanders couldn’t lead Colorado (8-3, 6-2 Big 12) to a win against Kansas (5-6, 4-4). The Jayhawks maintained their late-season winning streak by defeating the then-No. 16 Buffaloes 37-21.
With the Buffaloes behind in the encounter, Sanders lost his cool with favorite receiver Travis Hunter. Being at the right place at the right time was crucial to the offense advancing the ball and getting back into the game. And this was what Sanders wanted from Hunter.
After he was unable to locate Hunter in a drive, Sanders made his feelings known to the two-way star on the sideline. He complained about Hunter's movement and wanted that to change when next they took the field.
“What I’m saying is you have to beat the comeback, you can’t sit there going this way,” Sanders said while making the description with his hands.” (17:00)
Shedeur Sanders reportedly escapes Big 12 sanctions
Colorado's game against Kansas on Saturday was marred by several ugly moments. However, one incident stood out to college football fans everywhere: quarterback Shedeur Sanders was seen shoving an official during the game following an unfavorable decision.
The shoving incident originated from a third-quarter play where he was sacked by a trio of Kansas Jayhawks players. After the tackle, the defenders appeared to escalate the situation by stepping over Sanders and attempting to rip the ball from his hands, prompting his frustrated reaction.
The controversial act quickly became a talking point across the sport. There’s been a lot of speculation that Shedeur Sanders, who has an NIL value of $4.7 million according to On3, might face a suspension from the Big 12, potentially sidelining him for Colorado's regular-season finale against the Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-8, 0-8 Big 12).
On Monday, Brian Howell of Buffzone confirmed that Shedeur Sanders will not face suspension for the incident, clearing him to play in Colorado's regular-season game against the Cowboys.
"There were a few articles this weekend about Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders facing a possible suspension for shoving a ref Saturday vs. Kansas," wrote Howell. "There will be no suspension. Talked to a Big 12 source who told me that's being ‘handled internally with CU.’”
Following the loss to Kansas on Saturday, Colorado now has a difficult path to the Big 12 championship game. The Buffaloes are currently one of four teams tied for first place. To secure a spot in the conference championship game, they must defeat Oklahoma State and hope for losses from at least two of the other top three teams in the standings.
