Texas starting QB 2024: Who will start for Steve Sarkisian's team in Week 13?

The No. 3 Texas Longhorns (9-1, 5-1 SEC) have enjoyed a successful 2024 regular season. Steve Sarkisian's team has defeated all but one opponent heading into Week 13, and is playing some of the most dynamic football in the SEC at the business point of the 2024 season.

Ahead of the Longhorns' penultimate game of the regular season against the Kentucky Wildcats (4-6, 1-6) on Saturday, let's examine their starting quarterback and QB depth chart.

Texas' starting QB against the Kentucky Wildcats in Week 13

Quinn Ewers has started eight out of the 10 Texas Longhorns games this season. The Southlake-born shot-caller has remained the team's starting quarterback since the 2022 college football season.

Ewers has dealt with adversity this season. He suffered an oblique injury against the UTSA Roadrunners and was forced to miss two games. The Longhorns still managed to win without him.

For the season, Ewers has compiled a stat line of 1,898 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions. He'll be looking to pad the stat sheet in the last two games of the regular season against Kentucky and Texas A&M Aggies.

Texas Longhorns' QB depth chart

According to the College Football Network, Arch Manning and Trey Owens are the quarterbacks behind Quinn Ewers on the depth chart. Both Manning and Owens have starting-caliber talent and are patiently waiting in the wings for when Ewers eventually declares for the 2025 NFL draft.

Arch Manning is the Longhorns' primary backup quarterback, and he was on hand to step up when Ewers got hurt against UTSA. Manning has recorded 939 passing yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions in six games in his redshirt freshman season. He has also added 81 rushing yards and three rushing TDs for good measure.

Trey Owens is the third-string quarterback heading into Week 13 of the ongoing college football season. Owens is in his freshman year and is soaking up as much knowledge as possible from Ewers and Manning. The Cy-Fair High School product has the tools to be a decent starting quarterback at the collegiate level in the not-so-distant future.
