The Alabama Crimson Tide suffered one of the biggest upsets of the college football season so far as they lost on Saturday to the Vanderbilt Commodores 40-35 despite entering the game as the top-ranked program in the nation. They struggled on defense and allowed their opponents to keep the game close before ultimately losing.
During Monday's edition of ESPN's "First Take," Stephen A. Smith did not hold back about the Crimson Tide and discussed why he is not happy with how they performed against the Commodores.
"Paul Finebaum. I'm ashamed," Smith said. "You will not hear the words 'Roll Tide' in an affectionate manner for me for the rest of the season. It was an embarrassment, it was disgusting. Those players should have bags overtheir heads walking around campus all week long. They should be ashamed of their damn selves."
Smith did not stop there as he also targeted coach Kalen DeBoer and compared him to the coach he replaced.
"And Kalen DeBoer, it's fair to say this. [You] won 90% of your games as a head coach at four different institutions, including winning two NAIA titles, if I remember correctly. You were in the national championship game, you were back-to-back Pac-12 Coach of the Year when you were at Washington s well. You are no Nick Saban."
It is safe to say that the Alabama Crimson Tide needs to figure out how to bounce back and play like they did in the first half against the Georgia Bulldogs.
What is next for the Alabama Crimson Tide?
The Alabama Crimson Tide have lost arguably their "easiest" SEC game on their schedule and now have to figure things out after six quarters of poor defense. They are home on Saturday against the South Carolina Gamecocks and are 22.5-point favorites.
Going up against freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers, who returned to action in Week 6 after three weeks out with an injury, they have a good chance to get back to their winning ways.
