The Utah Utes will take on the TCU Horned Frogs at home in Week 8 of the 2024 college football season. Kyle Whittingham and his team are currently on a two-game losing streak. Their latest loss came at the hands of Arizona State in Week 7.
Following that loss, the Utah Utes dropped to 4-2 (1-2 in Big 12 conference play) this season, hurting their chances of competing for the conference title and a playoff spot. This makes the game against TCU a crucial one. Let us explore who will be the Utes' starting QB against TCU.

Utah's starting quarterback against the TCU Horned Frogs
Freshman QB Isaac Wilson will be the starting quarterback for Utah against TCU, as Cam Rising is out indefinitely following a season-ending injury.
Cam Rising had made his return against Arizona State after missing three games due to an injury. Unfortunately, he was injured again when his leg bent backward awkwardly during a play against the Sun Devils.
On Monday, head coach Kyle Whittingham provided an update on Cam Rising's injury status. He released a statement saying the seventh-year QB will miss the rest of the season as he rehabilitates from his leg injury.
"Upon further evaluation by our medical staff, Cameron Rising's injury has unfortunately been deemed season-ending," Whittingham said. "During his time at Utah, Cam has been both a great player and a leader for our program, and he will obviously be missed."
Isaac Wilson decided to commit to the Utes after coming out of high school despite receiving offers from other programs like Miami and Oregon. He served as the starting QB during the three games that Cam Rising missed this season and won two of them.
So far this season, Wilson has completed 68 of the 122 passes he attempted while putting up a 55.7% pass completion rate. He has tallied a total of 830 passing yards along with six touchdowns and seven interceptions. Despite his lack of experience, the freshman QB has shown promise which led to Kyle Whittingham putting his faith in him.
Utah's quarterback depth chart
While Isaac Wilson takes over as the starting QB for the Utes, the depth chart also includes sophomore Brandon Rose and senior Sam Huard.
Rose committed to the Utes in 2022. He redshirted his freshman campaign and did not see any action during the 2023 season as well. The sophomore QB made his first appearance this season during their season opener against Southern Utah.
Meanwhile, Sam Huard began his collegiate career with the Washington Huskies in 2021. He spent two seasons with them during which he played in five games while recording a total of 265 passing yards and a TD pass. Huard then entered the transfer portal and served as the QB1 for Cal Poly last season. He joined the Utes this offseason and has yet to make his debut for the team.
