With Allar as the starter, the Nittany Lions are expected by many experts to contend for the National Championship this season.

He has been at Penn State for three years, but this is only his second year as the starting quarterback.

What year is Drew Allar in at Penn State?

Drew Allar is a junior at Penn State, which is his third year at the university. He is only in his second year as the starter but did not redshirt as a freshman, and as a result, he only has one year left of college eligibility after this season.

He was the backup quarterback as a freshman in 2022 and appeared in most games for Penn State once the team was either way ahead or behind.

Since he appeared in more than four games, he was not eligible to redshirt the season. However, after that year, Allar earned the starting job and has done an excellent job.

In his first season as the starter, he completed 233 of 389 passing attempts for 2,631 yards and 25 touchdowns. Additionally, he proved he could be an effective runner, rushing for 210 yards and four touchdowns on 74 carries. He did all this while only throwing two interceptions the entire season.

This year, Allar has stepped up his game, completing 117 of 164 passing attempts through the first seven games of the season for 1,640 yards and 12 touchdowns. However, he has had more trouble keeping the ball safe and has thrown four interceptions already this season.

Drew Allar injury status

Allar left last Saturday's 28-13 win over Wisconsin at the end of the first half with an apparent knee injury. He attempted to come back in the second half but ultimately decided he would be too limited to perform at his best.

As a result, there was talk all throughout the week about whether he would get the start. The coaching staff told the media that they would not make a decision on who would start until shortly before game time. Ultimately, he was cleared to play and got the start against Ohio State.
