Sherrone Moore will enter his first full season as Michigan coach in 2024. With the spotlight on him, fans have been curious to learn more about Moore, including his college football playing career.
Moore played junior college football as an offensive lineman at Butler Community College for two seasons, in 2004 and 2005. He was part of two conference championship teams that posted a 20-3 record across two years. The offensive lineman also earned second-team all-conference accolades with the Grizzlies
In 2006, Moore transferred to Oklahoma, where he played for two years. During his stint with the Sooners, Moore played in 14 games as an offensive guard and helped the team win two Big 12 Championships.
Moore didn't declare for the NFL Draft. He earned his bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Oklahoma in 2008.
Soon after college, Moore began his coaching career. He joined Louisville as a graduate assistant in 2009, while pursuing a master's degree in sports administration.
He also worked at Central Michigan before joining Michigan's staff in 2018 as the tight ends coach. He also worked as a co-offensive coordinator and offensive linesman coach with the Wolverines.
Last season, Moore served as Michigan's acting head coach for four games, filling in for the suspended Jim Harbaugh. The Wolverines eventually won the national title, going through the season undefeated.
After Harbaugh left the Wolverines to join the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers this offseason, Moore was promoted to head coach at Michigan.
Sherrone Moore addresses Michigan's ambitions for 2024 season
At Michigan's Big 10 media days in July, Sherrone Moore addressed his team's ambitions for the 2024 season.
"For us, it’s about getting better every day, and we’re always hunting," Moore said. "Regardless of people coming after us, we’re coming after them. So for us, we’re not in the mentality of sitting back and waiting to see what goes on.
"We’re going to attack our process. We’re going to work our tails off to make sure we’re doing the best things we know that are possible in the way we know to be successful."
Moore's Michigan will begin its 2024 season by hosting Fresno State on Aug. 31.
