5 of the worst looking cricket jerseys

Cricket is a sport which is followed by millions around the world with fans ranging from eight to eighty. The sport has seen it all with fans going for cricket crazy haircuts and flaunting tattoos of their favourite cricketers. But the most popular way of showing support for a cricketing side is to wear their jerseys.

Fans usually wear them with a lot of pride as it acts as a connecting thread between them and the icons, but then again not every jersey you would want to don. What if the design or the colour puts you off?

Here we look at five jersey’s which even die-hard fans would think twice about wearing.

#5 Jamaica Tallawahs

Even though they are the present Caribbean Premier League (CPL) champions, their yellow track pants did not look to good in the eyes. It is a surprise that the squad had the biggest names in cricket including the likes Kumar Sangakkara and Chris Gayle but they failed to put on a decent outfit.

Even the jersey was heavy black with shades of green which is not at all suitable for the kind of weather in the West Indies. But then again these are the colours which have got them the trophy twice, so none of the players would be complaining and we should be prepared to see them in similar strips the next season too.

#4 Royal Challengers Bangalore (the green outfit)

RCB
Not a colour to support the aggressive cricket they play

The Virat-Kohli led side comes out every year wearing red, barring one-game where they choose to wear bright ‘green’! It is a part of RCB’s go green initiative which supports planting saplings.

The deed is indeed a noble one, but the colour is not at all soothing to the eyes and sometimes one might just not get to pick a fielder against the green grass. Maybe from the next time Kohli and AB de Villiers will opt for a better shade of green. It could even help them win the IPL.

#3 Germany cricket team

For a country who are the World champions in football, much is expected when it comes to their jerseys. Cricket might not be a popular sport in Germany but the t-shirt makers should have taken more time and selected the colour rather than pouring out an overdose of yellow and red for the national team.

For those who never knew a German cricket team exists, they must note that the side also became an associate member of the ICC in 1999. The German side also takes part in the lower divisions of the World Cricket League. May be a change in colours can bring about a change in fortunes and catapult them a little higher.

#2 Chennai Superstars (ICL)

The Chennai Superstars won two back-to-back ICLs

It was a rebel league to take on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) but the project was ambitious and so were the jerseys especially the ones worn by the Chennai Superstars.

The outfit was an eyesore concoction of pink, green and grey stars. With it, the players had to wear a maroon cap, there really was thinking when the jersey was envisioned it seems. International stars like Michael Bevan had the privilege of donning the disastrous jersey. But even with such strips they won the first two seasons of the league.

#1 West Indies (World Series 1979-1980)

It is tough to beat this one. This jersey has to top the list for being the ugliest. The West Indies had taken part in the World Series in 1979-1980 where day-night cricket was introduced and they amused the fans with their flashing pink strips as much as with their cricket.

The idea was to have a jersey which would signify the islands marine diversity but the ‘coral pink’ wear turned out to be quite a disaster.

Commentator Tony Cozier too got involved in a controversy when he said, “It’s a colour which carries strong homosexual overtones in the Caribbean.” It really must have been funny watching the tear-away West Indies pacers running around in pinks.
