Writtick Chatterjee picked up six wickets without conceding a single run

Bengal off-spinner Writtick Chatterjee notched up a very rare feat in cricket as he picked up six wickets without conceding a single run. His heroics with the ball helped his team Bhowanipore Club defeat Mohammedan Sporting by a mammoth 253 runs in a Cricket Association of Bengal’s (CAB) First Division two-day playoff match on Saturday.

The 23-year-old picked up three wickets in his first over as he claimed wickets in his first, third and fifth ball of the over. In continued his wicket-taking spell in the next over as he picked up two. By the second ball of his third over he had six wickets besides his name and that too without conceding a single run.

The Jamtara-born player’s figure of 2.2-2-0-6 stands out as one of the best bowling figures in the recent past. It was Chatterjee’s spectacular effort which rattled the Mohammedan Sporting for a mere 37 runs in 13.2 overs. Mohammedan was chasing Bhowanipore Club’s 290 at Deshbandhu Park ground.

The all-rounder hoped to continue his brilliant form in his quest to return to the Bengal team. He made his first-class debut against Uttar Pradesh at Eden Gardens back in 2013 and since then played only three matches for Bengal. His last match in Bengal jersey was against Railways back in early 2014.

I could not hope for a better finish – Chatterjee

After his incredible performance, an ecstatic Chatterjee talked to the reporters. He said, "Everything went as per my plan and I could not hope for a better finish.”

The all-rounder idolizes the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and English spinner Graeme Swan also talked about his ambition to play for India. He said, “ I hope to hold on to this and win matches for Bengal. Hopefully, one day I will able to play for the country like many aspiring cricketers,"

However, he narrowly missed the chance to equal former East Bengal pacer Shyam Sundar Ghosh’s record of 7/0 in CAB First Division Knock Out match against Deaf and Dumb almost fifty years back.
