Don Bradman Cricket 2014- Can there finally be a decent Cricket game?

There have been many attempts at bringing a decent cricket game in the market but unfortunately most have ended up as being a mere shortcut to shell out fast bucks from the cricket loving nations. Series like EA Cricket, Brian Lara Cricket by Codemasters and Ashes series by the same, have all stepped into the market with new hopes and have only ended up crashing them eventually. The situation was so bad that the latest Ashes game was cancelled after release as 505 games believed that it was a terrible mess. The game came and vanished in thin air before people waiting for it could even lay hands on it. Now Big Ants Studios faces a major problem as trust will be a huge issue with anyone who wants to buy a cricket game, being scalded by various studios and their versions of cricket games in the past.

The game has already been released on PS 3 and Xbox 360 but it’s PC version is slated to release on 26th June worldwide on Steam. For those of you waiting for a decent cricket game with a bated breath, there’s hope as the intitial reviews of the Xbox and PS versions of the game have suggested. Most critics have given favourable reviews to the game praising it’s batting and bowling interface. The only issue seems to be the menu and the animation.

The game features 79 teams and most of these are not licenced. So don’t expect proper player names this time too. Ball Physics have been improved and are said to be more realistic while there is also an option for Appeal and Electric review so that players can challange the decisions of the umpires which they do not agree with. There is also a career mode which all of the previous games were lacking and let’s hope that it makes the game more interesting and allow us to explore cricket in the same addictive manner as we have been able to explore manager mode in FIFA. Another focal point of the game is the availability of shots like Dil-scoop, Reverse-Sweep and Paddle-Sweep but with a lot of practise. There’s also a cricket academy where you can train your players and compare them.

The disadvantages of the game mostly lie in stupid, frustrating errors that can be resolved in the future issues of the game. The career mode testes your patience as the skills of a player when you begin with him are very fundamental and are irrespective of the position he comes on to bat. With fingers-crossed for this one and high hopes from Big Ants for the next one, the cricket fan can at least rejoice, if not enjoy completely a full-fledged cricket game. Also, let’s hope that more International teams give licence to use their player names as this one only has the concent of three cricket boards. Until then, wait for tomorrow and buy the game to experience it yourself.
