A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal at the Gulberg police station for allegedly resorting to violence against a traffic cop, and he is set to be presented in a court within the next 24 hours.

The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) said that Akmal had refused to stop the car when he was asked to slow down and produce the papers of his vehicle. Akmal then swore at the warden, identified as Zeeshan, and also threatened him.

Akmal has, however, denied these claims, suggesting that he was getting late for a wedding and hence, was rushing inspite of being stopped by the warden. He further claims to have been slapped by the warden, which injured his face.

Gulberg’s assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Zahid Nawaz said that Akmal’s face was not hurt. He also added that no evidence was there to support his claim that he has been assaulted by the warden. He further went on to say that the shirt of the warden was torn near his collar, and hence, Akmal was the one who resorted to violence.

Umar was taken to the Gulberg police station, where he is currently detained. He has been booked under section 186, 279 and 353.
