There may be fluctuating phases of optimism and pessimism with respect to cricket in United States, but the game’s future there notwithstanding, it can be a nightmare for cricketers to travel to America as Kiwi all-rounder Jimmy Neesham found out recently.

The New Zealand cricketer, who’s playing for Guyana Amazon Warriors, had to travel to US due to the hectic traveling schedule of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League, and saw his bat destroyed by US custom officials who drilled holes in his willow, apparently trying to check for drugs in the sporting equipment. Earlier today, he posted this on Twitter:

With an arsenal of bats which cricketers carry with them these days, the setback wouldn’t have left Neesham without any willow for his match against Antigua Hawkbills yesterday, where he made a contribution of 9 runs, including a slightly mishit six, as Warriors won the match by 19 runs.

The incident though didn’t affect Neesham much apparently, who capped off a good day with a spectacular one-handed catch.
