Rishabh Pant is also part of the list

What's the story?

23 Team India hopefuls, on the fringes of national selection, will be closely monitored by the BCCI throughout the entirety of IPL 2018, in a bid to manage their workload and body.

“The basic plan was to divide the players into three groups. The first group comprises current U-19s. The second group is of old U-19s, where we have players who played U-19 India in last three to four years. And the third group is of current India A Players,”

In case you didn't know...

The groups have players such as Washington Sundar, Shreyas Iyer, Vijay Shankar and Jaydev Unadkat as well, who have played for the national side, along with domestic stars like Mayank Agarwal and R Samarth.

The bowlers will follow a new programme that has been created by the NCA (National Cricket Academy), whose trainers and physios are required to be sent a report on the bowlers by the IPL teams.

The heart of the matter

These are the players that have been identified for the program by the BCCI:

Current U-19s: Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti.

Old U19s: Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Sanju Samson.

Domestic, India A: Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, Vijay Shankar, Jaydev Unadkat, Basil Thampi, Deepak Hooda, Mayank Agarwal, Ravikumar Samarth, Navdeep Saini, Siddarth Kaul, Hanuma Vihari, Ankit Bawne.

What's next?

The franchises will have to make sure that they don't over-bowl the bowlers, who are not likely to make it to the playing XI, in the nets, and ensure that they preserved for the future when Indian Cricket requires their services.

Author's take

It's a welcome move by the BCCI to ensure that bowlers, especially young pacers like Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi, who have shown immense potential but might not be adept at balancing the burden of a tournament as rigorous as the IPL.
