Thirty-eight 5-wicket hauls and three 10-wicket hauls in a first class career with 912 wickets in 196 matches – writing down the career statistics of 39-year-old Glen Chapple, I am a bit surprised to find out that he has featured only in a lone ODI for England, in which he left the field due to an injury after bowling four overs and subsequently, he never returned to the international scenario.

But these days, along with Kyle Hogg, the Lancashire skipper has been silently making history in the County Championship by bowling great spells upfront as a deadly duo. Last week, they bowled out Essex for a meagre 20 runs in just over 14 overs and now today, they are in the headlines again, after bowling out Northamptonshire in under 30 overs. Northants had the likes of county cricket veteran James Middlebrook and South African Andrew Hall in its ranks, but were never able to resist the pace attack of Chapple-Hogg.

Though Chapple could never make it to the England squad again, the 29-year-old Kyle Hogg, who captured seven wickets against Northants, has a first class tally of 214 wickets and also 16 fifties, which might help him get a place in the national squad in the near future.
