My top 10 fielders in the world

It's always tricky to pick a list of the best in any department, and especially in the fielding arena there are a lot of brilliant players. But if I had to choose, these would be my top 10 fielders in the world currently (in no particular order):

AB de Villiers – I don't need to say much about this man. He can dive, catch, run, jump - there's nothing that he can't do on a cricket field, really.

David Warner – An ultra-aggressive fielder who always charges at the ball and takes time away from the batsmen, Warner is easily Australia's best fielder at the moment. He's a very safe catcher too.

Virat Kohli – Kohli has made his share of mistakes in the IPL, but he's a supremely agile fielder in the outfield. He always gives 100% commitment wherever he's placed, and he has the ability to dive off both his left and right side. That is the hallmark of a great fielder, and it gives Kohli an extra 4-5 seconds as he never has to go around the ball while diving.

Eoin Morgan – Morgan is an inspiration for all English players with his quick reflexes and sharp catching. There aren't a lot of great fielders in the English team, but Morgan is definitely one.

Ravindra Jadeja – Blessed with a powerful throwing arm, Jadeja is an absolute livewire in the field. Competent both inside the ring and in the outfield, he has been instrumental in many Indian victories on the basis of his fielding alone.

Dwayne Bravo – Bravo is one of the rare fast bowlers who is also tremendously quick and agile in the field. Most remarkably though, he is excellent with getting batsmen out caught and bowled; no one in the world is better at fielding off his own bowling than Bravo.

Suresh Raina – Another player who always shows great heart in the field, Raina's passion and agility are second to none. A wonderful catcher and an expert at effecting run-outs, Raina is an asset to any team.

Glenn Maxwell – Maxwell is an all-rounder in every sense of the term. He can bat, he can bowl and he can also field like a dream. It's always a risk to go for a run when the ball is headed in Maxwell's direction – he is quick enough to leave even the fastest runners stranded.

MS Dhoni – Yes I realize that Dhoni is a wicket-keeper, and not a 'fielder' in the conventional sense of the word. But as we saw yesterday, Dhoni is incredibly quick and alert in effecting run outs, and even in his stumpings he displays many of the qualities that great catchers and outfielders have. Quick reflexes, tremendous foot speed, a very accurate arm - Dhoni is the complete package.

David Miller – Miller has continued the South African tradition of great fielding, which we've seen in both international cricket and the IPL. Miller is terrific at catching and brilliant at diving, and regularly saves bucketloads of runs for whichever team he is playing in.
