Mohun Bagan players back coach Karim Bencherifa

Mohun Bagan’s form has been disappointing in the last month and the players have only themselves to blame for the results. The missed chances in the match against East Bengal had cost them dearly, followed by the poor performances against Mohammedan SC, Rangdajied United, Mumbai FC and Dempo SC, save the match the match against United SC which they won 4-0, thanks to a brace scored by the Nigerian Christopher in his first match for Bagan.

There has been chants of, “Go Back Odafa” from the Bagan fans and also fingers have been pointed at the officials for mismanagement. The coach Karim Bencherifa had been quite calm and did not react to the unrest which is occurring between the fans and the officials.

Karim Bencherifa has the full support of his players, he is not the one to blame for the poor performance of the team. As per the general trend of Indian football, the blame for the poor performance falls on the coach. But it was good to see that all the players of the team had given a written statement to Karim saying that they want Karim to stay as the coach.

On Tuesday evening, Bagan won a match against Techno Aryan in the local league 3-0 in which the youngsters played a huge role. Now, we have to see if they can pull Bagan out of the mess in the ongoing I-League and give their fans some reasons to smile. They have their next match against Pune FC on Saturday. Bagan are on the 10th spot in the league table with 15 points from 14 matches having won only 3 matches.
