Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Jay Shah announced the launch of the Women's U19 T20 Asia Cup in a board meeting held in Kuala Lumpur. The meeting took place on Wednesday, September 11.
This tournament will be held biennially, while serving as a precursor to the following ICC Women's U-19 T20 World Cup. Through this tournament, ACC aims to give young women cricketers in Asia a chance to compete on the global stage.
The press release from ACC stated:
"In a progressive move, the ACC has confirmed that the Women’s U19 Asia Cup will be held biennially, serving as a key tournament before each ICC Women’s U19 World Cup. By giving emerging female cricketers in Asia the opportunity to compete on an international platform, this tournament aims to provide crucial experience and readiness, ultimately helping Asian teams perform better on the world stage."
The statement added:
"This groundbreaking initiative will also play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility of women’s cricket in the region, further advancing its growth and popularity. For the first time in its history, the ACC has established a structured pathway for young female cricketers, reflecting its unwavering commitment to promoting gender equality and nurturing cricketing talent across all levels."
Jay Shah, president of the Asian Cricket Council said:

The introduction of the Women’s U19 Asia Cup is a monumental achievement, providing a much-needed platform for young women cricketers to develop their skills and showcase their talent. Jay Shah appointed chairman of the International Cricket Council

Jay Shah was elected as the chairman of ICC unopposed after Greg Barclay decided to opt out of staying for another couple of years.
Shah had the following to say on his appointment:
"I extend my heartfelt gratitude to ICC’s Member Boards for placing their trust in me to take over this prestigious role of the Chair of the ICC. I want to assure you that I will do everything possible to elevate the standard of our game across the globe.As I step into this pivotal role, I am resolutely committed to meeting your high expectations and dedicating myself to the beautiful game of cricket." Jay Shah will assume his role on December 1. Aged 35, he became the youngest candidate to be awarded that post and became India's fifth representative for the post after Shashank Manohar, Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar and N. Srinivasan.
