Pondicherry T20 2024 Points Table: Updated standings after Match 22

The Pondicherry T20 2024 saw the 21st and 22nd matches being played at the Cricket Association Puducherry Siechem Ground in Puducherry on Friday, January 12.

Pondicherry West XI crossed swords with Mahe XI in the first game of the day, while in the second match, Yanam XI and Pondicherry South XI battled it out for the vital two points.

The day belonged to the chasing teams as Pondicherry West XI defeated Mahe XI by three wickets and Yanam XI trounced Pondicherry South XI by six wickets.

With the results, Pondicherry West XI are now third in the points table with eight points in seven matches, courtesy of three wins, two defeats, and two no-results. They are now level on points with Pondicherry South XI in second place with eight points in eight matches.

At the same time, Yanam XI have jumped to the fourth place in the league standings with seven points in eight matches thanks to three wins, four losses, and one no-result.

Pondicherry North XI and Mahe XI are the bottom two teams with six points each in seven matches, respectively. Meanwhile, Karaikal XI are still at the top of the points table with nine points in their account after seven games.

Desh Deepak Chauhan’s all-round heroics leads Pondicherry West XI to a win

In the first game of the day, Mahe XI batted first but managed a below-par total of 139/7 in 20 overs. The opening batter Mohammad Shaheer notched up a brilliant fifty but he didn’t get enough support from the other end. It was a combined bowling effort from Pondicherry West XI as five different bowlers scalped one wicket each for them.

Defending the total, the bowlers tried to pull the game back for Mahe XI as they reduced Pondicherry West XI to 103/7 in the 15th over. However, a brilliant unbeaten cameo of 27 runs off just 14 deliveries from Deepak Chauhan won the game for Pondicherry West XI. The all-rounder had picked one wicket with the ball as well.

In the second match, Yanam XI did a fantastic job with the bowl and restricted Pondicherry South XI to 125/7 in 20 overs. Sivamurugan M scored a fifty for Pondicherry South XI but it wasn’t enough to take his team to a safe total.

Chasing the target, the opening pair of Kaladi Nagur Babu (50 runs off 44 deliveries) and K Sunil Kumar (31 runs off 28 deliveries) added 87 runs for the first wicket. It turned out to be a cakewalk from there as Yanam XI hunted down the total in the 17th over.
