Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal not keen on playing domestic cricket

Banned Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal has indicated that he is not keen on playing domestic cricket in Pakistan before being ready for a return to international cricket as has been recommended by Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) bowing action review committee.

Ajmal, who was banned from bowling in international cricket for a suspect bowling action in September, will be subject to another private biomechanics test on his bowling action this week.

"Saeed spoke to Iqbal Qasim and apparently he wants to prepare himself directly for the biomechanics test of the International Cricket Council (ICC) before the World Cup," the source said.

Ever since his ban, the 37-year-old has been working closely with Saqlain Mushtaq on remodeling his action, and the results have started to show. During his last test at an ICC-accredited testing centre in Cardiff, United Kingdom, there was significant improvement from Ajmal, with only his doosra exceeding the 15 degree limit as opposed to earlier.

"The review committee strongly felt that while Saeed had shown remarkable improvement in his bowling action but since he had remodelled his action to achieve this they have questions over whether he will be as effective as before which is why they want him to play domestic matches this month," the source added.

Before his suspension, Ajmal was an integral member of the Pakistani side across all formats, and Pakistan fans will be desperately hoping that he can return in time for the 2015 ICC World Cup.

The deadline for the teams to submit their final 15-man squad for the World Cup is January 7.
