Shakib Al Hasan becomes the seventh cricketer to hit 4000 runs and take 200 wickets in ODIs

Shakib is the only Bangladeshi to do so

Shakib Al Hasan has joined the honorary club of cricketers who have scored 4000 runs and taken 200 wickets in ODIs. The others who have achieved this include Sanath Jayasuriya, Shahid Afridi, Jacques Kallis, Abdul Razzaq, Chris Harris and Chris Cairns. Shakib is now the seventh player and the only Bangladeshi to achieve this unique feat.

In fact, he has taken the minimum number of matches among these seven players to reach this milestone. He took just 204 matches. Previously, this record was held by Abdul Razzaq. Harris has taken the maximum number of matches to reach here (244).

He is the second Bangladeshi bowler to take 200 wickets in ODIs. It was always a matter of time before either Mashrafe Bin Mortaza or Shakib would have clocked 200 wickets, as they were going neck-to-neck. At the 3rd ODI in Chittagong, as Hashim Amla aimed to drive a tossed up ball outside off but instead managed to touch it with the outside of the bat, Shakib easily took his wicket. Abdur Razzak is the only other Bangladeshi who has been able to take 200 wickets.

He became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to hit 4000 runs at the Manuka Oval against Afghanistan during the World Cup qualifiers. He reached the milestone in style by hitting a boundary on a delivery by Aftab Alam.

As of now, Shakib’s batting average stands at 35.33 and his bowling average at 28.42, both being the best among the seven players to have scored 4000 runs and taken 200 wickets.
