Sourav's fans bring smile on the faces of Chennai kids

The cake prepared by fans on Dada's 39th birthday

Sourav Ganguly might have retired from the international cricket 3 years ago but his fan following doesn’t seem to have receded. On the 8th of July, Sourav’s birthday, the excitement among the fans was very much the same as it used to be when he was playing cricket regularly. Online and offline worlds were abuzz with wishes for their beloved Dada. Undoubtedly Sourav Ganguly is still the ruler of the hearts of millions of cricket fans in the country. While fans were busy in celebrating the day in their own ways, a group of Ganguly fans in the southern city of Chennai planned a novel way to celebrate their hero’s birthday. They decided to bring smiles on the faces of kids of an orphanage.

40 kilometers away from Chennai, an orphanage called ‘Udavum Ullangal’ is situated. The group of fans planned to celebrate the day with the kids of this orphanage. The celebration was organised after the school hour was over. At around 6 o’clock in the evening, the children, 47 in number, assembled at the central hall of the orphanage building. Clapping and singing, the children cut the cake specially prepared by Dada fans and wished the most successful captain of India a very happy birthday. The children enjoyed the cake, snacks, sweets arranged for the evening. Educational kits, notebooks etc. were distributed among them by the organisers of the event.

Happy faces

Arun Raghavan, one of the member of the group of Sourav lovers who organised this event, was happy to see the joy on the faces of the kids. “These kids face so much of hardships in their lives. This orphanage is the only hope for them. We wanted to bring some cheer to their lives at least on Sourav’s birthday. Sourav brought cheer in lives of lots of Indians through his performances on the cricket ground. We decided to help these kids and make them happy at least for one day. There couldn’t have been any better day than Sourav Dada’s birthday.” He also thanked fellow fans Sathish, Gokul, Srikumar and others who helped to make this event successful. They also donated to the orphanage and promised to continue helping in the future.
