Tremendous response for Wonder Cement’s Saath7 Cricket initiative; 9000 teams register

The Wonder Cement Cricket Mahotsav registration saw participation in great numbers, with about 9000 teams registering

The #Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav organised by Wonder Cement is all set to take off with registrations for the tournament finishing yesterday, on the 7th of December. There has been great interest shown by people across Rajasthan and the tournament looks set to be a resounding success.

A total of about 9000 teams have registered for the Mahotsav, a tremendous number considering this is the first time a tournament of this magnitude is being organised. By the time the event begins, we will be left with a total of 3980 teams, with the selections made by virtue of a lucky draw. The aim of this tournament is to reach out to all the cricket lovers in Rajasthan and to try and encourage the participation of youngsters in the tournament so that the sport receives a boost at the grassroots level.

What makes the tournament unique is the fact that it encourages the participation of women, going as far as giving extra runs to teams that have a female member in their side.

The rules of the tournament also indicate that there is more emphasis here on the message, which is to encourage grassroots interest in the sport, rather than focus on the rules specifically. The matches will be 7-overs a side with 7 members part of each team.

Approximately 5000 teams registered on the last day, making it clear that the tournament definitely appealed to people across the state, irrespective of age and gender.

Registrations for the #Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav went on till the last day

Some heartening news coming from the registration is also that there is a woman-only team that has registered, i.e. a team full of women with 10 members. Also, the captain of another team is a 61-year-old woman, who was clearly not daunted by her age and instead chose to participate with great interest.

The #Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav will begin on the 26th of December 2016 with the Tehsil matches and will eventually move on to District and Zonal levels, with the tournament scheduled to finish by the 17th of January 2016.

The eventual aim of the initiative is to identify young cricketing talent in the state of Rajasthan and if the response so far is something to go by, we are in for a great tournament. Also, there is great financial reward associated with the tourney, with the total money in terms of prizes amounting to close to Rs. 30 Lac.
