Younis Khan evades ban by apologising to PCB

Younis Khan is Pakistan’s leading run-scorer in Test cricket

Veteran Pakistani batsman Younis Khan has reportedly managed to escape a 3-match ban after he offered an apology to the Pakistan Cricket Board for walking out of a domestic tournament following a row with the umpires.

The incident had occurred during the Pakistan One-Day Cup when Khan expressed his displeasure over some poor umpiring decisions and made some remarks to fourth umpire Rashid Riaz after the match. Due to his actions, the match referee was prompted to hand the right-handed batsman a fine and summon him to a disciplinary hearing. This did not go down too well with Pakistan's leading Test run scorer and he decided to pull out of the tournament midway.

However, with the prospect of a three-match ban looming large on him, Younis Khan decided to seek forgiveness from the PCB for his actions over a call with chairman Shahryar Khan. In a press release, the board confirmed the call made by the veteran batsman and also the fact that he apologised.

Speaking on the issue to a Pakistani TV channel, the 38-year old clarified, "I had objected to a no-ball which was above chest height and that's all. I have given assurances that I will play the remaining matches so the matter ends here."

Younis Khan is currently the skipper of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team in the Pakistan One-Day Cup and will be taking part in the rest of the tournament following his apology.
