Elite: Dangerous release date set for December 16th

Frontier Developments has set the official launch date for its space adventure title Elite: Dangerous as December 16th, 2014. The game will be an adventure, trading and combat simulator set in space. The release is just for Windows this time with Mac OS X version expected to arrive 3 months after which is a bit of a bummer for Mac users. The release though will only be the first step for this game as there are many future plans in making Elite: Dangerous an even more immersive title.

Some of these plans include landing on planets, being able to explore your ship, explore space stations, performing space walks to fix your ship and all of this happens from a first person perspective. These may amazing on text but there is still a lot to achieve and if Frontier Developments manages to pull this off, then Elite: Dangerous will be a title worth remembering. So expect a lot of post launch expansions with (hopefully) these features.

The game will be available to all players who had preordered during the betas. It will be priced at $60. However, the Mercenary Edition of the game is available on preorder for just $50 and will include some rewards such as the Eagle fighter ship and an exclusive pack of ship paint jobs. Players will also get a digital guide a "day one" ship decal, a digital concept art book, and other digital rewards. Seems like a pretty hefty deal. Elite: Dangerous
