According to rumours, the sixth installment of the Grand Theft Auto series will release in 2017.

Rockstar Games have not confirmed anything regarding the release of GTA 6, but haven't declined coming out with the sixth edition of the hit series. Speaking to Develop Magazine, Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies said: "We've got about 45 years worth of ideas we want to do. We don't know what GTA VI will be, but we've got some ideas. GTA Online is the focus right now. There ain't no rest between finishing V and then online. Plus we have some other things - stuff, DLC, I don't know how to describe it exactly - that we'd like to do, and we'll pick the right ones."

New York as location

Rumours doing the rounds suggested that GTA 6 will be set in New York City. The game is reported to be set in 'Liberty City', which is a fictional version of New York.

So is the game going to stay in USA, or is it eyeing foreign shores. Rockstar Games had earlier hinted that it isn't necessary for the game to stay in USA. "At the moment it feels like [Grand Theft Auto's] D.N.A. is contemporary-ish, America-ish, English-speaking-ish, because that's what it has been... But that doesn't necessarily limit it to those, that's just what we've done so far," said Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar, in an interview to GameRant during the GTA 5 release.

Other locations that are being touted as venues for GTA 6 are, Paris, London, Brazil and Los Angeles.

GTA 5 Sales and Records

Grand Theft Auto 5 is yet to release on PC, Play Station 4 and Xbox One. Rockstar Games' most popular creation was initially released in September 2013, just for Play Station 3 and Xbox 360. And now after witnessing huge popularity amongst fans, the franchise will be eyeing the other platforms.

Since it’s September 2013 release, GTA 5 has gone on to become the fastest-selling entertainment product of all time. The game made over £1 billion in just three days. It broke seven Guinness World Records on 8 October 2013: best-selling video game in 24 hours, best-selling action-adventure video game in 24 hours, highest grossing video game in 24 hours, fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion, fastest video game to gross US $1 billion, highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours, and most viewed trailer for an action-adventure video game.
