Halo: The Master Chief Collection matchmaking feature is busted

halo the master chief collection

The highly anticipated launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection has run into some major problems regarding their matchmaking feature with players reporting that they cannot join matches or even find other players. The wait is sometimes as long as six hours. The issue has been reported on both Reddit’s r/halo and Halo Waypoint. This could be due to the huge influx of players on the first day, many of whom had the game pre-loaded and flooded the servers almost immediately after the launch. So since yesterday night, the matchmaking feature for the most part is broken.

An official Xbox Live alert has been released on the Xbox website that states:

"Xbox members, are you having a tough time matchmaking in Halo: The Master Chief Collection? As you read this message, we're working with our external partner to correct this issue right away," Microsoft said. "We appreciate your patience in the meantime! We'll update you again when we have more information."

“As you read this message, we’re wo’rking with our external partner to correct this issue right away.”

Many major releases seem to running into first day launch problems, in part due to not being able to handle the sudden rush of players. Pre-loaded games do need seem to be aiding the issue. Game dev’s really need to up their game in this department if they want to avoid issues like this in the future, especially since more and more games seem to adding online features. Players will still be able to connect to each other and play the multiplayer feature but they will have to do this manually. Single player campaigns are functioning fine as well so players can in the meantime explore the game while the issue gets resolved.

Meanwhile a representative from Microsoft has stated that they are working along with Xbox live to get the issue fixed as soon as possible and an update has been deployed. The update does not need to be downloaded as well as it is done on the server side. So expect things to improve in a few hours.

"We are aware of issues some players have been experiencing with matchmaking and we're working around the clock, alongside the Xbox Live team, to improve the situation," the representative said. "We have deployed an update that has shown some improvement, and we continue to optimize the experience. The update deployed to matchmaking was done on the server side and does not require an extra download to your Xbox One. This is our top priority and will keep everyone updated regularly as we deploy continued improvements."
