Microsoft has acquired Mojang for $2.5bn

In what’s seen as a major development, Microsoft have stuck a deal with Mojang to acquire them and in turn their iconic franchise ‘Minecraft’ which is estimated to be for $2.5 billion. The team from the Stockholm-based game developer will now be joining with the Microsoft Studios which is expected to benefit the gamers with a richer and faster virtual world.

After all the customary closing conditions and review, the acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The game as we all know is a construction game where the gamers can build block by block in a virtual world. It is the top paid-for app both on Apple Inc's iOS and Google Inc's Android systems. It was first released for PC in the year 2009 and then a full version was released in November 2011. The Xbox 360 version was released in 2012 and on December 17, 2013 the PS3 version was released. And like we reported earlier, the PS4 version has been released just a few days ago.

Microsoft’s CEO seemed visibly happy with the development as he welcomed Minecraft to Microsoft on twitter.
