Minecraft and developer Mojang are now officially part of the Microsoft Family

One of the most buzzed about topics in the Minecraft community these past few months has been about whether Microsoft is going to purchase Mojang, the company behind the game and will anything change once the purchase is complete. What initially started as a rumour was officially confirmed in mid-September with Microsoft sealing the deal by purchasing Mojang at a whopping $2.5 billion. That deal stands closed today with an official announcement by Microsofts head of the Xbox, Phil Spencer on twitter.

In a recent tweet posted by Spencer, he states that Mojang is now part of the Microsoft family.

“It’s official, today we welcome Mojang to the Microsoft Studios family. We’re excited for the possibilities ahead w/the Minecraft community.

Luckily for Minecraft fans, very little has changed since the announcement of Mojang’s purchase. The game still remains on all systems and will even be releasing new versions for the PS4, PS Vita and for Windows phone. This comes as good news for people who own these consoles or are Windows phone users. Players also need not worry about lack of support or the game being pulled. Given how popular the game is across all platforms it’s doubtful that Microsoft will be making this mistake anytime soon.

Now regarding the possibility of if there is going to be a sequel to the game, it’s not entirely out of question and comments from top management has suggested that there might be a sequel at some point but they aren’t rushing into it, especially given how popular the current version is. So while a sequel of the game is a possibility, we won’t be seeing it anytime soon and Microsoft doesn’t seem keen to rush into making one either. Again that’s probably a good thing. Also now that Mojang isn’t short of resources or revenue anymore, it could mean some long standing issues present in Minecraft will now finally be resolved.
