Review: HALO: Master Chief Collection

Shayak

The wait is over. All the Halo games that you love have been combined into a single disc and is presented to you by Microsoft, Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a compilation of remastered first-person shooter video games from the Halo series for the Xbox One. With this game, Halo makes its debut in the Xbox One platform. The game features all the existing Halo games and the main protagonist is Master Chief. You can play the games in any way you like. That means you can play the game by either going through each campaign as they were originally designed in a linear fashion, or by jumping into any mission of your choosing directly, or by playing through custom-built playlists of levels from each title designed to focus on highlights. The story of the campaing remains the same. No alteration has been done except for the cutscenes of Halo 2 which were re-done using present day CGI methods.

Gameplay:

In the Remastered version, attention has been given to every minute details

As mentioned before, there is no change in the story, but the same can be said for gameplay too. The developers have kept the gameplay as it is so that the players can feel that they’re playing Halo. The collection consists of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4. The entire experience of playing the game has been justified by improving graphics. The real treat for the gamers here would be the multiplayer system. As each game inherits its specific multiplayer engine, with the added benefit of being able to run each title in four player split-screen local combat mode. Other feature which are included in the Master Chief collection is the Extra menu. It includes access to Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta and Halo Nightfall. Nightfall is a like a mini-series whose episodes build up the story for Halo 5: Gaurdians. These episodes are directed by ergio Mimica-Gezzen and produced by Ridley Scott.

The collection recaptures all the original appeal of each title in the series, but manages to add something new into the mix as well, both through updated visuals, through the unique remixing of existing content, and through additional content in Halo 2: Anniversary that points to what’s to come in Halo 5: Guardians. The overall appeal remains the same - gun fighting is fun, huge armory to select different weapons, good story and in addition to the game is the new gen graphics. This game is a MUST for any Halo fan. Attention has been given to every minor detail and you will notice much more detailing than the previous games. The game encourages several exploration campaign. There are several "playlists" — collections of levels with specific themes that jump from game to game.

Final Verdict:

There are some minor issues, which could be bigger for someone else. In the multiplayer mode, the split screen mode is provided, but Halo: Combat Evolvedand Halo 2 both drop to 30 frames per second with their Anniversary modes enabled. In the end what remains in your head is the mesmerizing graphic scenery that is shown in the game along with the great gameplay, so these small issues do not matter much. The Master Chief collection has set a bar that the other remasters and collection will face difficulty to reach. For players new to Halo, who have missed any of the included games, it is a stunning introduction to one of the most beloved series in video games. For Halo fans, it's a package that shows almost as much respect and affection for the Master Chief as they do.

Thumbs up for the game. Go to the nearest game retail store and grab a copy of Master Chief collection. It’s worth your time and the price.
