Yoshida says Sony is still working on The Last Guardian

Many fans have given up on the highly anticipated Last Guardian, a game announced back in 2009 at E3, with job posting to the project dating all the way back to the start of 2008. It had immediately impressed critics and fans then, but unfortunately has not been completed till now. However after a long silence, Sony worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has recently shed some light on the situation. At the very least, he has assured us that the game is actively being worked on.

According to an interview with Weekly Famitsu, where the interview put forward a question regarding certain PS4 games being multi-platform, Yoshida answered, “I think it’s fine to start from there. If the number of PS4 users increases from there and they tell their friends, ‘the games look prettier on the PS4,’ or ‘the loading time’s faster,’ or ‘using the SHARE function is fun’ then the sales for PS4 versions of games will increase and game creators may think ‘let’s focus on developing for the PS4 from here.

Still determined to make a point, the interviewer pointed out the importance of first party development regardless of blockbuster third party releases, and proceeded to ask about progress on The Last Guardian. Yoshida replied, “Development couldn’t be better. That might be a bit of an exaggeration (laugh). We continue to work diligently on the game, so please look forward to it”.

With such predecessor as the much acclaimed Shadow of the Colossus, we hope that they will finally make things work with The Last Guardian. Here’s a trailer to the game released five years ago.
