Video: Wins for Skelton and Langehanenberg at Aachen

There were further victories for Nick Skelton in the showjumping – and Helen Langehanenberg in the dressage – in Sunday’s final day of action from the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany.

In the final dressage competition at Aachen, Germany’s Isabell Werth on ‘Don Johnson FRH’ was looking to break Helen Langehanenberg’s stranglehold.

They came close, with a score of 82.075 per cent.

Danish rider Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein came third with ‘Digby’.

But the magical combination of Langehanenberg and ‘Damon Hill’ were not to be denied.

In the course of her CHIO outing, she celebrated three victories – she had previously dominated the Grand Prix and the Special.

Here, the 31-year-old achieved a score of 85.3 per cent with her 14-year-old Westphalian-bred stallion.

In the Rolex Grand Prix showjumping, record prize money of 330-thousand Euros was on offer to the winner.

45-thousand spectators watched Janika Sprunger of Switzerland put herself firmly in contention to lift that massive pot.

But it was the evergreen Nick Skelton who came out on top – for the fourth time in his long and illustrious career.

The 55-year-old Briton riding 10-year-old ‘Big Star’ finished well ahead in a jump-off that also featured Patrice Deleveau of France.
