14 hidden references in Genshin Impact 4.8 Simulanka map
Fans may come across several easter eggs referencing many modern-day memes and pop culture phenomenons while adventuring through the magical world of Simulanka and partaking in the Genshin Impact 4.8 quests. While some can be easily grasped, thanks to their widespread popularity, others may have slipped from the sights of many. As such, here is a list of all hidden references in the new area:
1) Spider-Man meme reference
The Spider-Man pointing meme is iconic. It includes three variants of the character pointing fingers at each other in disbelief over them being the same entity. HoYoverse has put an easter egg in Simulanka where three toys in red clothing point to each other in the same fashion, while also saying "It's you!", to make one funny interaction.
2) Attack on Titan reference
Another popular reference that many Genshin Impact players must have noticed in Simulanka is a reference to the popular anime and manga series, Attack on Titan. The developers have recreated the famous moment where Eren points out to the sea and suggests to Mikasa and Armin that there is freedom on the other side of it.
3) Death Note reference
One of the popular easter eggs fans found is related to the Death Note anime and manga series. The franchise is extremely popular with its protagonist, Light Yagami, being a popular character. At one point in the series, Light says "Who else could have done it?" while stretching his arms to the side for a meme-worthy pose. A toy in Simulanka seems to have decided to recreate that event.
4) Skyrim reference
"Hey you, you're finally awake." are the legendary words spoken at the beginning of the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This dialogue has been immortalized as a meme used in the gaming community. This dialogue in Genshin Impact is said by one toy to another inside a carriage as a reference to the meme.
5) Puss in Boots reference
During the new event quests in Genshin Impact version 4.8, an NPC toy, named Cappet, asks for help from the Traveler and their companions. Since Kirara is dressed in her new outfit, clad in a hat and boots, the toy refers to her as "Puss-in-Boots". While she clearly gets annoyed by this title, she doesn't redress much after being called "Demon Feline" previously.
6) Squid Game reference
While exploring the overworld of the new event region, players will come across a locked Exquisite Chest surrounded by toys. To obtain it, they must solve a puzzle, which seems to be inspired by the popular Squid Game franchise. Here, gamers must engage in a game of "Red Light, Green Light", completing which will lead them to the chest.
7) Yu-Gi-Oh! reference
Seto Kaiba is one of the most well-known characters from the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise. During Episode 54 of the abridged version, Kaiba expresses how much he hates stairs in a funny yet relatable monologue that begins with "Oh my god, so many stairs!". HoYoverse has added an easter egg referencing that moment with a blue toy stuck on a staircase.
8) Bleach reference
In the region of Simulanka, players may come across a toy stuck upside down on a wall. Upon getting closer to it, fans can see the dialogue "This is the Inverted World." which is a clear reference to the iconic manga panel from Bleach where Shinji Hirako says "Welcome to the inverted world!'.
9) Forrest Gump reference
Genshin Impact developers have added an amazing hidden reference hinting to a memorable scene from the famous movie, Forest Gump. To trigger the easter egg, players must sit beside a blue toy on a bench, as it recites its version of the iconic dialogue from the film.
10) Zootopia reference
During their travels in the new region, players will come across an Exquisite Chest surrounded by toys and a paper sculpture of a rabbit in a blue shirt and a fox in a green shirt. Upon engaging with the toys, it is revealed to be a hidden reference to Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from Zootopia.
11) What scares you meme reference
What scares you the most is a popular modern-day meme where children are asked what are they afraid of. While most children provide normal answers, a kid named Dylan says he is scared of the constant marching of time. In reaction to this, another kid suggests that what he is most afraid of is none other than Dylan. This meme has now been recreated in Genshin Impact's new region using toys.
12) FBI, open up meme reference
At one point when exploring Simulanka, Travelers will come across a huge round door. As the voice behind the door asks, "Who is it?", players have the option to answer using one of three prompts. Among them, the first one allows them to answer with "Police, open up!" which is a clear nod to the popular FBI open up! meme.
13) The Stanley Parable reference
Stanley Parable is a first-person game from developer, Galactic Cafe. It has a compelling storyline during which the player can hear the narrator's amusing ramblings. Some quests in Simulanka also include dialogues from the narrator, as a nod to the popular title.
14) Singin' in the Rain reference
Singin' in the Rain is an iconic classic from 1952 featuring the talents of Gene Kelly. While exploring Simulanka in Genshin Impact, Travelers may come across a blue toy recreating the famous pose from the movie on a night lamp.
