3 Best FPS PC Games of All Time

First Person Shooter
First Person Shooter

We all love FPS games. We might not like the same games but we all love the First Person Shooter genre and the world of gaming can’t be imagined without First Person Shooter games. Few of the greatest games of all time are FPS, few of the greatest games of the current time is also FPS. Be it Left 4 Dead 2 or Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, we all have poked our noses into the genre and fell in love with it.

Alright, making this list was never going to easy. Honestly, I don’t think it is possible to make a list of best few FPS games and even if we do, it will end up being something like “Best 50 FPS games” or something like that. I can hardly nail it down to 25 games but just 3 games? I never even remotely thought that I will do this one day. And I am not worried about missing out some game and hurting the fans, I am more worried about missing out a lot of games and hurting myself. So here is how I decided I will choose the games, First of all, it needs to be FPS obviously. 2nd most important rule, shooting has to be the most dominant factor in the game, 3rd important point is I am making this list considering the current time so forget if it was a classic or most influential game of all time, if it is not the best in the current time it is probably not going to be on my list. So here we go.

#3 Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Release date: November 6, 2015

Format: Xbox One, PS4, PC

Call of Duty started with World War 2 era shooter as it intended to create the drama-filled tension of the war zone. Since then we have come a long way, We have played Call of Duty games set during the Cold war, the Vietnam war, Modern day even far future and outer space. Call of Duty Black Ops 3 lands right in the middle of all the mess where it fits just right. Not too held back with old guns and old world set up, not too futuristic either. It has the exact essence of a realistic shooter game with a realistic scenario, you play the game and you feel good about it. There is no other choice.

Black Ops 3 offers you smart designs, good mechanics and fluid gameplay to create something that feels good and new yet not too boring or too way ahead of the curve. Being able to choose a character and the co-op can give you a slight MOBA feels. And also let’s not forget our fried-brain friends, in Black Ops 3 out dear zombies had an entire city for them.

Anyone who wants to spend their night playing fast-paced running and gunning games, this is a perfect match for you. And when I say perfect match I mean a soul-mate kind of match, not your average one night stands with Arma.

#2 Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege

Rainbow Six Siege
Rainbow Six Siege

Release date: December 1, 2015

Format: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Now, are you smiling huh? Well, there’s nothing to be happy about. We all knew that this game will make it through the tight list because of few reasons.

1. It has a huge player base
2. As I mentioned before – “current time” – and it is one of the best FPS games of the current time.
3. Involves heavy shooting
4. Has everything an FPS should have.

Rainbow Six Siege is without any doubt has become popular since its release and getting even more popular with time. I remember that time when I lost half my “other game buddies” (Read: Dota buddies) cause of this game. And that was when it came out. It is a perfect mix of FPS and online multiplayer. If I combine the intensity of the game with the replayability, it becomes a masterpiece on its own. The replayability reminds me of counter strike where we played the same damn de_dust2 or de_inferno over and over and it still was not a boring game because even though the map was same, every second of the gameplay was so different and that is the difference between playing a multiplayer and playing against AI. Even though games like Warface has co-op, they do still get boring at some point if you don’t change the map. But Rainbow Six siege? Woooh! Do you want to say something?

Another great part of the game is its destructibility. You can fire through walls, ceilings, floors, and everything is destructible, so you need to decide where you can take cover or which wall you want gone. You can choose from a bunch of highly skilled operators, each of them have their specialty and with your friends, you can make a great team. Even though you are mostly dependant on your skill, teamwork is a great thing. Every round in the game become a tom and jerry show with high intensity and a lot of bullets flying around.

If you like online shooter games with real-time strategy, this is your game. Get in with your team, plan carefully and get the job done. And don’t always rush B.

#1 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Release date: August 24, 2012

Format: PC

It does not matter if it started as an expansive Half-life mod or not, counter strike franchise is the epitome of First Person Shooter genre. And Be it counter strike 1.6 or Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, it has always stayed on top of the competitive shooter scene. I should rather say at the top of the FPS E-sports scene.

Counter-Strike is all about nerve-wracking pressure vs trying to stay calm kind of game. It is the most competitive way of playing a Terrorist vs Counter terrorist game. There is no respawning during the rounds and so if you die, all you can do is sit your butt down and watch the game hoping your teammates will either eliminate the other team or defuse/detonate the bomb successfully.

Each map is well crafted with a lot of depth, you can snipe, assault, knife or blast your enemies out. The guns have their own recoil patterns that you can only learn with experience, also things like throwing a grenade or flashbang without flashing your teammates is something you need to learn in this game. Unlike most co-op FPS games, shooting is not everything here, grenades, smoke, and flashbangs are important to survive and fool your foes.

If you are addicted to FPS games and you like to brag about your shooting skills then Counter-Strike: Global Offensive should be your game(Unless you are in America and you have a school to attend, you know what I mean). If you fall hard on your face the first time, just tell yourself that its a game people play for years to master and one day you will “git gud”.
