Tekken

If you have ever played any video games, you most probably would have heard about this one game in particular; Tekken. It has been more than two decades since the very first edition of Tekken came out in 1994. The world of games went through a lot of changes in these two decades. Gaming in arcades got replaced by PC gaming. First Person Shooter games took centre stage and multiplayer gaming became synonymous with the word gaming. To be honest, Tekken is not a widely popular game. Generally speaking, fighting games are incredibly hard to master and so is Tekken.

In this particular article, we present to you Tekken's case for one of the best games ever. We are not gonna give you information about the game, storyline, graphics and what not. We're gonna discuss the meat of the matter. What makes Tekken great?

Have you ever played a video game or even a team sport and felt like, my teammates suck! They're bringing me down with them. Well, this is one reason why you should switch games. In Tekken, you're the one-man show. They are no teammates, no officials. The outcome of the fight depends solely on you. All of it is man to man (or woman to woman).

Athletics is often considered the purest form of sport owing to the low involvement of officials and non-athlete factors. It's the same with a lot of fighting games too, especially Tekken.

Tekken 7 - Roster

You might need a crash course just to get to started in Tekken 7. First, you gotta pick a character from the 37 character-strong roster, one of the biggest rosters in fighting games. That in itself is a time-consuming task. Then you got to learn, or at least try to learn all or most of the rest of the characters. If that's not all, every stage can be used in some way or the other. Some stages will be beneficial to your character, while others will limit your character's offence. All of this boils down to hundreds of moves, countless hours spent in practice mode and even then you'll just be a rook.

Generally speaking, fighting games are hard to play and borderline impossible to master. At a time when a lot of fighting games (Street Fighter V for instance) have decreased their difficulty level tremendously so that the game would sell more, here is a game that is still carrying the ethos of fighting games. Tekken 7 is one of the most balanced games out there.

#3 The Realism

Speaking exclusively of fighting games, most fighting game franchises have maintained a 2-D stage with walls on both sides. Now there's nothing outwardly wrong about this approach, except it limits the gameplay in more ways you can imagine. Tekken, on the other hand, has always had a 3-D stage which gives a whole other aspect to the gameplay, both on offence and defence.

There is one other thing about Tekken that's not very common in fighting games. The gameplay looks very real, not the animation and graphics, gameplay. The characters are modelled after real people. Martial Law is based on Bruce Lee. King is a typical masked Mexican wrestler. Shaheen, the new character in Tekken 7 was finalised after consultations with the Saudi Arabian Tekken community. Every character is more than just a character.

When it comes to the business side of things, fighting games are way behind other mainstream and widely popular games - Dota 2, CS GO, League of Legends. Tekken 7 is no exception. But in the past few years, new developments have come up. More money is being funnelled into gaming tournaments featuring Tekken 7.

More and more people are turning up online to watch these tournaments live. There are North American players giving Koreans a run for their money. This was unheard of just a few years ago. Tekken World Tour 2017 was a huge success. The level of professionalism has really peaked. This is the perfect time to pick up Tekken 7 as a hobby or something more than just a hobby.

One of the problems with fighting games and especially Tekken is that it doesn't have an in-game tutorial. So if you're a complete newbie to the game, it's really easy to get overwhelmed. This is where the FGC (Fighting Games Community) comes to the rescue. There is an insane amount of online resources out there that can help you get started with Tekken and basically any other fighting game. This was not possible until a few years ago.

Now there are professional Tekken players putting out videos and educational content that will improve your understanding of the game. It's worth mentioning that all of this is user-generated content and none of it is put up officially be game companies. Besides all of this, there are offline and online tournaments, meetups, online forums and a ton of other platforms and ways to level up your game. If you ever by chance choose to pick up a fighting game, you will be taken care of by the FGC.
