Desmond Chumney was regarded as the backbone of Canada’s batting line-up

Cricket 07 has been the most popular game of EA’s cricket series, and though it’s 11 years old it is still played cricket fans. The game survives due to mods and third party patches developed by its users.

EA lost the licensing bids to most of the teams barring South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and England. All other teams have generic player names and kits, but EA made sure to give similar names so to identify them with the real players.

Many of these names are quite comic and here we list down five funny names of players in EA Cricket 07.

#5 D Chutney (Desmond Chumney)

Desmond Chumney was regarded as the backbone of Canada’s batting line-up. He has been a part of the Canadian team for 2003 and 2007 World Cup. He has also played in three ICC Trophy tournaments, three ICC Intercontinental Cup matches, and the 2004 ICC Americas Championship.

D Chutney is a rather funny name for the Indian fans of the game since ‘Chutney’ means sauce in some of the Indian languages. The right-handed batsman has a batting skill of 59, while none of his skills have a rating above 60.

His batting weaknesses include the bouncer and a weak offside. Canada is not a mainstream team in Cricket and rarely plays international matches. In the game, D Chutney has scored only 83 runs in two matches at an average of 20.75 runs.

#4 Z Kalm (Zaheer Khan)

He is the only ‘Strike Bowler’ in Cricket 07’s roster for India

Zaheer Khan, a left arm fast-medium bowler, is India’s most successful pace bowler of modern times. Khan is known for his aggressive seam bowling, especially perfectly executed yorkers. So when Cricket 07 names him ‘Kalm’ it does leave you in fits of giggles.

Z Kalm has a rating of 86 for bowling accuracy in the game, while his lowest rating is 80 for the slow ball. Zaheer is the master of standard deliveries, outswingers, in swingers, leg cutters, off cutters, yorkers, bouncers, and slow balls.

He is the only ‘Strike Bowler’ in Cricket 07’s roster for India. His in-game statistics include 115 wickets in 107 ODIs at an economy rate of 4.90 runs per over. His best bowling figures in an innings meanwhile are 4 wickets for 19 runs.

#3 L Ramen (Leon Romero)

L Ramen has a batting skill rating of 62, and all of his batting skills are rated above 60 as well

No, this player has nothing to do with ramen noodles, nor is he from a Japanese descent. Leon Romero or L Ramen, as he is called in the game, was a right-handed batsman, right-arm medium pace bowler and occasional wicketkeeper for the United States cricket team.

L Ramen has a batting skill rating of 62, and all of his batting skills are rated above 60 as well. He specialises in the ‘Leg Glance’ shot, but has a weak offside and is susceptible to bouncers. In the game, he has scored only a single run in two matches, while also taking a single wicket.

Though United States cricket is not as developed, EA has made sure they bring the players in limelight through such funny names.

#2 D Monika (Dinesh Mongia)

Cricket 07 rates Mongia’s batting skill at 82

If this name reminds you of the Bollywood actress Helen then you should sit aside and appreciate EA’s creativity with generic names. D Monika is Dinesh Mongia, India’s former middle order batsman. His international career was short-lived and he played only 57 ODIs scoring 1290 runs at an average of 27.95.

Mongia hasn’t played a single Test match for the Indian team. The left-handed batsman excels in the straight drive, on drive and the leg glance. His highest score and only century was against Zimbabwe where he scored 159 not out.

Cricket 07 rates Mongia’s batting skill at 82 and none of his other batting skills fall below 75. Though he seems a decent player rating wise, he doesn’t have any special batting skills.

The left-handed batsman is a specialist in straight drives and has no batting weaknesses

T Kandyba is nowhere close to a candy bar, but it is quite a comic name for the Sri Lankan cricket Thilina Kandamby. A specialist middle-order batsman, he was also the limited over captain for Sri Lanka.

Kandamby was very successful in domestic cricket and performed well as the captain of U-19 Sri Lankan team which toured Australia, where he won the Man of the Series award. Though he was seen as a promising talent in early days, he failed to perform in international cricket and was dropped out soon.

Cricket 07 rates T Kandyba at 67 for his batting skill, while all his batting ratings are above 60. The left-handed batsman is a specialist in straight drives and has no batting weaknesses. He has played four ODIs in Cricket 07, scoring only 23 runs.
