Alien News: Alien Isolation 2 not coming; MMO Shooter in the works
In a strange move for the Alien franchise, Fox has stated that Alien Isolation 2 will not be coming out, at least not any time soon.
Alien: Isolation was a survival-horror game released back in 2014 based around the daughter of series protagonist Ellen Ripley, Amanda Ripley. After the fiasco of Alien: Colonial Marines, this release by Creative Assembly breathed life into the gaming side of the franchise and gave fans hope in all future projects.
The reception was overwhelmingly positive, so much so that fans have been eagerly anticipating a sequel since the original release nearly five years ago. Sadly, it doesn't seem like we'll be getting that. At least, not any time soon.
20th Century Fox's FoxNet told Variety that they are not working on Alien: Isolation 2, and there are no plans to do so at the moment. Instead, they'll continue to work on their new project; a massively multiplayer online shooter.
That's right, the Alien franchise will be getting a game similar to games like Destiny and Planetside 2. It's unknown what it will be called at the moment, but it seems like Fox is hoping to revive the Colonial Marines series by taking this step.
It's great to see the company working on bringing back the Colonial Marines part of the franchise, but it's kind of surprising to see them ignore the core fanbase that has been begging for a sequel to Alien: Isolation.
However, if you're looking to find out the rest of Amanda Ripley's story, fear not. The Aliens: Resistance comic will serve as the sequel to the game, as will Alien: Blackout, the mobile game that's coming out later this month.
