On Friday, January 25th, the Anthem VIP Demo launched and was...well...massively hindered by bugs. Putting it bluntly, many players couldn't get the game to work. One of the major issues that they dealt with was the inability to actually log into the demo. Aside from that, others couldn't escape loading screens to even begin the first mission.

In a community post today, BioWare's Head of Live Services, Chad Robertson, addressed the issues and what they planned to do.

"Yesterday was rocky," said Robertson, who attempted to explain the issues with the demo. He said that real-world play usually leads to "unexpected issues." Robertson wanted to address the rumor that they weren't prepared for the sheer amount of players that would log in over the weekend, claiming that they did, and still do, have excess capacity prepared for population increases.

Robertson then highlighted the three main issues dealt with over the weekend:

  • Platform connections
  • Entitlements
  • Infinite loads

Entitlements were described as "account flags that grant players things like their pre-order incentives and demo access." Certain VIP players were being blocked from the demo if they had a "specific combination of entitlements" essentially locking them out of the experience.

Robertson stated that the Entitlement issues are, for the most part, handled, and BioWare will continue to monitor the situation in regards to the infinite load times and server issues. He went on to say that, even though they've had problems, Anthem reached 300k concurrent viewers on Twitch and over 100M minutes watched, calling them "Fortnite-type numbers."

Robertson finished the statement by issuing a public apology for those that have been inconvenienced by the multiple issues surrounding the VIP demo's launch and linked to Answer HQ, a community board where, if players who've had similar issues can't help, their customer support teams are waiting.

Anthem releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows on February 22nd, 2019.
