Assassins Creed franchise have been delivering the true experience of many important activities which took place long back for the gamers. They showed us the revival of ever beautiful Venice, Firenze in Assassins Creed 2 and Assassins Creed Brotherhood, the American Revolution in Assassins Creed 3, and the Pirates life in Assassins Creed 4 : Black flag. This time they are taking us to the truly magnificent and beautiful France for the French Revolution in Assassins Creed: Unity. In this game, the players portray the role of Arno Dorian, an assassin who seeks revenge for the death of his father.

The game developers Ubisoft have given us the breathtaking view of France, right from the rooftops to street and landmark buildings. This game boasts architectural grandeur and visual treat and has set a benchmark for the next Assassins Creed games to be released. In the previous games, we all experienced the historical cities from the streets of Venice, to the rooftops of Damascus, but Unity’s graphics takes us to next level and gives a splendid visual treat from the rooftops of Notre Dame and other buildings. Ubisoft have created a massive open world with a scale of 1:1 with area of central Paris. The Graphics and Visuals of the steam- choked streets, the camera swirls from eagle point, are looking breathtaking at moments. Also, the portraying of historical personalities like Napolean Bonaparte, Maximilien Robespierre among others are just amazing.

The developers have given us a spine-chilling violent Assassins Creed game in the whole franchise. There is a scene at a point, where Arno becomes friends with Marquis De Sade, the players will witness a beggar tackled by three thugs in the streets, two of them holds him down and fasten a metal tourniquet to his knee. The third thug then proceeds to use a saw to shear off his leg. The victim’s screams and the sounds of the blade biting into shin are enough to make one flinch.

Unity is easily the best game to start for neutral players who are new to the franchise, because the control structures are streamlined and are easy to handle. The developers have removed the irritating glitch from previous games where players could accidentally reduce health of the assassin by hitting the wrong button. Climbing up or down is easy now as hitting one of two buttons and using an analogue stick will be enough this time.

The Combat system is now more challenging, previously the players could easily make one defensive move and cut their way through crowds of enemies, but in Unity the AI will adapt to the attempts by the player to win with the same attack, forcing them to learn parries and counter moves to escape. The AI also reacts to flank players and attack when their backs are turned, so in any instances if the players find themselves surrounded, the best way to survive is to flee from the enemies. The player can approach a target in any way he want, If they fancy their chances of survival, they can barge into the environment, make a way for their target and attempt to assassinate him. Chances are, though, this approach will likely end up with guards turning the player into pieces of meat.

Unity has taken Assassin’s Creed back to its stealth mode. By pulling in the left trigger, the players go into a crouch mode and can move silently and quickly through the environment. Tapping the Y button activates Eagle Vision, that allows the players to watch enemies through walls and track the targets. Eagle Vision is also useful outside of missions because it highlights any NPCs who could pose immediate threats, marking them in red. If the players opts for a sleathy approach to kill a target they will overhear snippets of conversations that offers some story details and clues to the items of interest in the map. If the players manage a cinematic kill, that is not getting spotted, they’ll earn far more XP and will be able to progress in their talent trees faster.

The developers have added an assortment of tools, gadgets and skills, which gives the players more options on missions. They have also added many ways in progressing the story furthur. For example, in a mission that involves taking down a Templar in Notre Dame presented a problem in which the entrances except the cathedral’s front door were locked. A gang of thugs had already stolen the church’s master keys and in order to enter the building stealthily, Arno has to track them to a bar and pickpocket them. However, unlocking this lock-picking skill before attempting the mission, the players can enter Notre Dame through the window without having to track down the keys.

The Multiplayer co-op missions brings a new addition to this series, where a maximum of four players can participate in a mission in the streets of Paris. Every Assassin can be equipped and levelled after completing the missions and Ubisoft have made these a must play as these multiplayer missions represent small stories involving the French revolution. The developers have said that a lot of the missions in Unity have been designed with more than one player in mind so attempting them solo can prove more difficult.

Early Prediction:

Assassins Creed Unity is shaping up to become one of the best games from the long running franchise, as the developers have shown us the beauty and artistry of Paris in a stunning way. The co-op missions add new edge to the game and is sure to take us on a long journey!.
